A resourceful company with skilled men and womenThe adventure of what would become the Supermarchés Match group began in Belgium in 1850 with the Delhaize family. At the time, supermarket distribution did not exist, however there were lots of small grocer's shops and more importantly an excellent system of organisation. "The branch concept" was born, and as they became supermarkets, they established themselves throughout the North East of France in addition to Luxemburg, the West Indies and Hungary. The group now naturally stands out as a dynamic player in the European food distribution market. The "Supermarchés Match" name appeared in 1990 when the stores in the Alsace, Lorraine and Northern regions of France merged. Regional roots are an everyday reality for these 157 stores. Each one participates actively in the vitality of the surrounding economic and social fabric. In its concern to create employment, the company purchases a large proportion of its supplies locally and recruits staff from directly around the stores' location. The company is socially aware, and in addition to its sponsorship commitments for medical research, it was one of the first to sign an agreement in favour of employing the disabled. Supermarchés MATCH has placed the customer at the centre of its priorities and relies on the professionalism and services provided by its 7300 employees. The company's stores would like to offer customers the possibility of doing their shopping in a pleasant, fast and economical way, in a friendly local environment. A true specialist in fresh produce, Supermarchés Match created an independent control team very early on in order to ensure impeccable quality. "We are a resourceful company, with quality control managers, and as a food store we have always favoured the art of "eating well" that customers recognise," says François Bouriez, Chairman of Supermarchés MATCH. He adds that, "From now on we shall also be pursuing international expansion, while continuing to give priority to the exemplary quality of the products we sell and the services we provide. We shall especially be working on an effective information system that gives more details on product flow and enables us to know our customers better... " | ||||||
